ART by Eugene E. White

Meet Artist

EUGENE E. WHITE

My roots have been that of the American experience – the Black experience.

I was born in the midst of the farm environment in the Black idiom, the back-wooded country; St. Luke, Rt. 1, Ozan in southwest Arkansas.

My roots stem from the mud where many dreams were born-some have faded, been forgotten, overlooked or simply gone unrecorded.

Many memories continue to emerge today from those roots which I have not totally strayed away from.

Today, as in the past, I dare to stray from our almost forgotten African heritage of some time ago, and as I continue to share my influences with varying audiences I still concentrate on communicating Black experiences through my works of art.

I wish to continue to share my strong interest in the beauty of Black people as a Black artist.

My challenge in the new millennium is to challenge other Black artist to join me in the struggle to make a conscious difference.

I strongly believe that it is the artists' responsibility to lift us to our highest level by portraying the life of our times.

My travels began many years ago to over many parts of the country, and now I am committed to sharing years of my harvest through my art.

My art and my wife Lynnette are my constant traveling companions, they both are quiet but compelling sources of support and strength.

While Eugene hails from Ozan, Arkansas in Hempstead County, his lovely wife the former Lynnette A. Frenchwood hails from the Island of Galveston Texas, the original home of the Juneteenth Celebration.

Eugene and Lynnette are Independent Contractors and they operate and manage two art galleries, and open by appointment only due to their busy schedules, community involvement, art projects, and their personal and business lives.
